How do we begin training?
Schedule a free initial assessment here (12+ years). A confirmation email will be sent after date/time are determined.
Athletes will be given access to scheduling after the initial assessment.
What is the free initial assessment for?
The free initial assessment allows us to identify an athlete’s goals, mobility, movement quality, strengths, weaknesses, and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
This information allows us to create an individualized training program specific for the athlete’s goals and needs.
How are training programs individualized?
- Mobility: Different athletes have different mobility needs in different areas. We spend our time mobilizing and building active ranges of motion (ROM) in key areas while stabilizing hypermobile areas.
- Sport Position: Breaststrokers have different strength/mobility needs from butterfliers (swim), left wing position players have different strength/size needs from point position players (water polo), and liberos have different agility demands from setters (volleyball). We train the athletes to meet the needs of their position.
- Strengths/Weaknesses: We use different Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to determine the strength and power levels of our athletes. Upon determining the strength and power levels of our athletes, we use the Bucket System to individualize our training programs to bring up weaknesses and maintain/expand strengths.
- Communication: We communicate frequently with the athletes to determine the athlete’s readiness levels, fatigue, and how their training is transferring to their sport. We make constant adjustments to the athlete’s training program based on their feedback
- Timing: Different athletes need to “peak” at different times. Training modalities will also vary between the offseason and inseason training. The individualized training programs allow us to ensure athletes are “peaking” at the correct times.
- Mobility: Different athletes have different mobility needs in different areas. We spend our time mobilizing and building active ranges of motion (ROM) in key areas while stabilizing hypermobile areas.
Are appointments necessary for training?
Yes, all training sessions must be scheduled directly in the Aquatic Sports Performance app. Scheduling closes 24 hours prior to each training session.
How many sessions a week should an athlete train?
We recommend 1-2x per week for beginners and 1-3x per week for advanced trainees. Ideal training frequency will be discussed depending on # of sport practices, school workload, travel logistics, etc. Training frequency also fluctuates between 0-3x per week depending on the time of season.
Will training help prepare athletes for Collegiate Strength & Conditioning?
All of our high school seniors are given as many tools as possible to handle the demands of Collegiate S&C. Our athletes have gone on to compete at Cal Berkley, Harvard, USC, NYU, UCSD, UCSB, West Point, and Santa Clara University.
What is the youngest age you train?
Our Youth Sports Performance program is for athletes aged 7-11. Our private and semi-private program is for athletes 12 years and older. Our younger athletes go through a long-term athletic development (LTAD) program and use mostly body weight movements to enhance their movement quality/capacity and kinesthetic awareness.
Does ASP only train aquatic athletes?
